MILO

MILO

Hello Alyce and everyone at GHS. I wanted to let you know that Milo passed away a couple of months ago from cancer. In the short 2 years we had him, we loved him as a member of the family, and losing him has left a big hole in our lives. Chris and I have had many dogs but Milo was really special. He was truly one of a kind - sweet, loving and always happy. When our daughter, Sofie, arrived in July last year, he was tolerant and gentle with her even as she pulled on his fur or stuck her fingers in his nostrils. We’d hoped he would always he there for her. Then in February he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a blood and bone cancer for which there was no cure. And just six weeks later he was gone. I don’t know if we’ll ever recover from that. He was a good dog. Thank you for rescuing him and bringing him into our lives. We feel so lucky to have loved him, even for such a short time.
Your friends,
Chris & Helga Wilson

HONEY

HONEY

Dear GHS,
We are so grateful to you for Honey (aka Mavis). She is so happy, loving, and willing to please. She LOVES the couch. She occasionally jumps down to chew her Nylabone for a minute and then jumps right back up on the couch. She’s a total couch potato if she is not on a walk. She loves to explore the neighborhood, causing a sensation among the other dogs who peak out their fences to see who the new gal in town is. She prances on but does not bark back. She barks only occasionally which is fine by us. She is still a bit timid with new people but warms up quickly to most. She loves the kids in the neighborhood who fawn over her during our afternoon walks. They all yell, “Hi Honey!” and come to pet her. There are two small ponds a mile away that we walk to where ducks and geese live and she just doesn’t know what to make of them. She enjoys walking/hiking but 3 miles seems to be her limit. Honey loves her toy collection as well. She went nuts for her kong. She also loves piggy and bee which she carries with her up and down the stairs.
Honey’s a shoe girl like her mom. We find our shoes on the bed when we come home. She knows when I put my tennis shoes on that we’re going for a walk and gets very excited. We’re working on containing ourselves. She already knew sit when she came to us and is working on stay. She sits and then scoots closer to you because she wants to stay but just can’t because there’s a treat in your hand!
According to the vet we took her to for surgery, she doesn’t need it at this time. We are so thrilled! She loves to run up on the hill in our backyard and chase lizards and birds and seems to get around with no trouble at all. However, we are getting a second opinion so we’ll keep you updated. We can’t believe we love her so much already and it’s only been six weeks! We are trying hard not to spoil her rotten. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

BUDDY

BUDDY

Hey All,
I know you are all very busy over at the Humane Society, so I hope these updates don’t become tiresome, but considering how loving and wonderful Buddy is, and how easily he can win your heart, I just want you all to know that he is still the most beloved and cherished pet in the world.
Thank you all so much, Leslie

CORTEZ

CORTEZ

I adopted Cedric, renamed Cortez the Killer, almost a year ago. When I first visited Glendale Humane, I had another dog in mind, but as soon as I saw Cortez- his eyes captivated me. He was an older dog with teeth worn down to the gumline, a patchy red coat & a tendency to cower at any affection. The first few months were very trying - once he trusted me, he didn’t want me to leave him alone.

Bringing my boyfriend’s dogs into the picture made all the difference in the world. He’s socialized, healthy & roams free on our four acres in Topanga Canyon. This sad, cowering dog is now the leader of the pack. Dogs from all around follow him on adventures through the creek, barking at horses & riling up coyotes. He’s fascinated with the doggie door we just installed & can’t get enough of the “inside-outside” game. But the most amazing thing about Cortez is his ability to walk backwards across a room while miming barks in the air. He meets me with a moonwalk greeting every night after work. What more could anyone ask for?

Thanks for everything, Lizzy Calhoun & Cortez the Killer

BELLA

BELLA

Hello Everyone!
We just wanted to give you an update on Bella (formerly known as Candace). She has adjusted wonderfully to her new home! She is in her 3rd week with Bobbi Lynn Riley for obedience training and starts her group puppy class later this month. She is crate trained, house trained, sits, does great down-stays and is learning to heel on the leash. She goes everywhere with us! We love taking her to the beach and she LOVES the attention she gets from the kids in the neighborhood! She has even had a few play dates and each week, she plays with Brodie, our Uncle Lee’s dog. I attached a picture of them for you! Mike and I wanted to thank you so much for allowing us to adopt Bella and take her into our home! It’s almost as if we were destined to find her! We cherish everyday we get with her! We will email you again with some more updates. You guys are the best! Thanks again!

Love Mike, Angie, and Bella Hofferth
