MAGGIE

MAGGIE

January 18, 2006
Dear Marsha, Ellen, Alice and staff:

I want to give you an update on my new home. My name used to be “Goldie” but my mommy’s sister’s doggie was named Goldie, so my new name is Maggie. I really like it.

Since I was adopted in November, I got over my heat, my worms, my kennel cough and got spayed. It was a long November… especially for my new parents! However, I also got over “shaking.” I no longer sit and shake. I am much more confident and I know my new family won’t abuse me. Also, I have a new sister named Roxy. She is the best doggie. I play with her a lot and sometimes she gets sick of me because I’m still a puppy and she’s 7, but she puts up with me because I think she really loves me.

I have a new life now and I love it. I get to run 1-2 miles a day and often get to walk at night. I love it. Did I say that? I can run faster than my mommy. I also run faster than Roxy.
I got to go to Griffith Park hiking, and I can hike faster and harder than Roxy. I love being outside. I have my own backyard that I share with Roxy. I love lying on the grass as some of you may remember from my walks.

Also, I have my own beddie on the floor next to my mommy. Roxy sleeps on the other side next to daddy so we each have our privacy. I am still a little afraid of men, including my daddy, but I am getting better. He loves me, but he’s still a man. I am almost over that too.

I have lots of toys to chew (because I went through a few rugs!), but I’m getting much better with my puppy chewing problems. I am fed well, and even get cooked chicken. I have learned to sit, lie down, shake and “wait” at a corner and “STOP” (wherever I am I stop. I learned that first because I was a little wild). I am going to learn more and more tricks and commands. I am so smart!

Well, that’s an update on my new life. I am very, very, very happy. Thank you all for helping me with my transition for the few months I spent at Glendale Humane Society. I really appreciate all your patience, time and effort. It has paid off. I am one of the luckiest and most-confident doggies. Everyone in the neighborhood sees a difference.
Keep up the good work with all the other doggies and kitties.
Love and kisses,
Maggie (aka Goldie)

DUFFY

DUFFY

Just wanted to let you know that Mr. Duffy is doing fantastic! He loves everybody now and doesn’t seem to have that fear response to new people. He has such a personality and we just love him.

Thanks so much for caring enough about these poor little guys to help them have a second chance in a new home. All of our friends have offered to “take Duffy off our hands”! They all think he is great too. I don’t know how we got so lucky to find him with the hundreds of dogs I looked at on the Internet. Somehow I just kept being drawn to that little dark face and goofy body! Did you know that the name “Duffy” means “dark faced one” in the Celtic name dictionary? How appropriate! You guys did great when you named him!

Thank you for your encouragement and reassurance with our initial “settling in” problems. I think we are over that hurdle now and cruising easy!

RUFUS

RUFUS

I just wanted to say thanks again for helping to bring Jester (now Rufus) into my life a few weeks ago. He is a wonderful spirit! He’s a great companion – smart, affectionate, gentle, quiet and CUTE! And he LOVES other dogs; he’s quite a hit at the local dog park and always comes home content and tired. He even seems to like cats, and the ones we’ve come across seem to sense his kind nature – they let Rufus check them out like he would a puppy. I don’t think he’s got a mean bone in his furry body. We’ve had no problems, other than a few accidents in the house the first week, but quickly got over that hump.
He is a very happy go lucky dog by nature, but I also think that the care and attention you gave him during his stay at your shelter had a lot to do with this being such an easy transition. So, on behalf of both of us I want to say thanks, best wishes to everyone there and keep up the good work!

MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS

First of all I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for your help in bringing Memphis (aka Penny) into our lives. When we first recieved Memphis she was a shy, quiet girl. Nervous around stairs and all unknowns. WOW! Has she grown out of her shell! Stairs have become her playground. She has become the queen of the neighborhood. She loves to run and play every oportunity she has as long as she is not sniffing. She is always at the door when we get home tail a-waggin and waiting to be petted. In her eyes, she cannot be close enough to you, she is the most affectionate dog I have ever met or had the priveledge of living with. She has her spots around the house, and even if that means you are sitting there, she will make room for herself by squeezing into what room is left and then slowly expanding. She is simply a sweetheart. So again, I wanted to thank you for giving us this opportunity to have Memphis as part of our lives, she is truly as happy as we are.

SARAH

SARAH

Hello Alyce, Star, and all staff, Paul and I adopted Sarah on December 18, 2003. She was listed as lab/shepherd/am staff mix. We absolutely adore her! She is very sweet and eager to please. She goes to Silver Lake dog park 3-4 times a week and kisses everyone who is sitting down and greets every dog who is in the park. Everyone says how sweet she is.
